Antonio Sánchez is a jazz drummer born on November 1, 1971, in Mexico City, Mexico. Sanchez began playing drums at the age of 4 and began performing professionally in his early teens. Sánchez has a degree in classical piano from the National Conservatory in Mexico. In 1993, he moved to Boston to study jazz music at Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory. He moved to New York in 1999 and began collaborating with jazz musicians all around the world. He is a frequent collaborator of guitarist and composer Pat Metheny, releasing many albums together. He has also worked together with musicians like Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, and Toots Thielemans. Sánchez has released many albums as the leader or solo artist, including the Grammy-nominated Bad Hombre. In 2014, Sánchez scored Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman. The soundtrack earned him a Grammy award for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media and many other wins and nominations.
