Armand Van Helden is an American DJ, songwriter, and record producer born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 16, 1970. He is one of the most popular artists in the speed garage genre and remixes various artists like Katy Perry, David Guetta, Sam Smith, Daft Punk, Bloc Party, Britney Spears and others. Helden is popular in the electronic music scene, but most of his success has been in the United Kingdom. At 13 years old he got a drum machine and within two years he started DJing. From 1986 to 1988 he was part of the rap group Define. In 1994 he released the song “Witch Doktor” which was his first song to make the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. He released his first album in 1996 titled Old School Junkies: The Album with the top-ten dance hit “Cha Cha.” Helden has since released the albums Sampleslaya: Enter the Meatmarket, 2 Future 4 U, Killing Puritans, Gandhi Khan, Nympho, Ghettoblaster, and Extra Dimensional. He has worked with the labels Nervous, Strictly Rhythm, ZYX, Henry Street, FFRR, Armed, and Southern Fried.
