Armistead Maupin is a writer born on 13th May 1944 in Washington, D.C., United States. He is widely recognized for writing a series of nine novels called Tales of the City. The first portions of the novels were published as a newspaper. Tales of the City was published in 1978, followed by five more novels in the 1980s, eventually ending with “Sure of You” in 1989. His seventh novel, Michael Tolliver Lives, was published in 2007.
Tales of the City is available in ten languages, and there are over 6 million copies in print. Some of his books have been broadcasted on BBC Radio 4. Three books in the series were adapted into a miniseries featuring Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis. Maupin also wrote two novels, titled “The Night Listener” and “Maybe The Moon.” He has also received several awards, including Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual Award in 2001 and CapitalAward by GLAAD Media Awards in 1999.
