Ásgeir Bio

Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson, better known as Àsgeir, is a singer and songwriter born on July 1, 1992, in Iceland. Ásgeir is classically trained in guitar and piano, having played the instruments since he was 6. He is the son of writer Einar Georg Einarsson, who serves as inspiration for Àsgeir’s music. The two often collaborate, with many of the lyrics to Àsgeir’s song having been written or co-written by his father. His first album, Dýrð í dauðaþögn, was released in 2012, which won Album of the Year in the 2012 Icelandic Music Awards. The first single from this album, Sumargestur, peaked at number 2 on Tónlist. His next single, Leyndarmál, reached number 1 on the charts. In 2014, Ásgeir re-released his debut album in English. The album, titled In The SIlence, contained lyrics that were translated by American singer-songwriter, John Grant. Ásgeir has collaborated with the likes of Erpur Þórólfur Eyvindarson and Eivør. He has also toured Europe supporting Of Monsters and Men.
