Asher Roth Bio
Exploding onto the music scene thanks to his popularity at colleges nationwide, rapper Asher Roth was born in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, on August 22, 1985. When he was a teenager, he was known for getting into friendly rap battles with his classmates, and in the 10th grade, he recorded himself rapping some lyrics, an early production of which he sold a couple hundred in only two days. While in college, he send a Myspace friend request on a whim to Atlanta promoter Scooter Braun, who met with him about one week later and signed him to Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label. In 2006, Roth released his debut album Believe the Hype. This was followed by his major-label album entitled Asleep in the Bread Aisle, released in 2009.
The first single on the 2009 record is what gained him such colossal fame. “I Love College” was a party anthem, memorized by college students everywhere. It peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 list, and though in the years to come he did not quite top the fame derived from “I Love College”, he did release a handful of EPs and albums. Roth released the EP The Rawth EP in 2010, followed by The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2 in 2013, and RetroHash in 2014.
