Producer and DJ Audien was born Nathaniel Rathbun on January 11, 1992 in Mystic, Connecticut. He began making music in 2008 and was signed to Flashover Records in 2009. Flashover released his first single, “Rise & Shine,” that same year.
Between 2010 and 2015, Audien recorded and released several singles. His singles have been featured on Tiesto’s “Club Life” and Above & Beyond’s “Trance Around the World.” His single, “Eventide,” released in August 2012, was played during Above & Beyond’s set at the Electric Daisy Festival in Las Vegas in that same year. He toured with Hardwell as well in 2012. He has remixed songs by Michael Jackson, Van Halen, and Nick Jonas. His remix of Bastille’s “Pompeii” earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2014. He released the single, “Insomnia,” in 2015 after the culmination of his first headlining tour. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. He followed that with a collaboration with country group Lady Antebellum entitled, “Something Better.” The song peaked at number eight on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and number sixteen on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart.
