Azizi Gibson, who uses his actual name as his stage moniker, was born on October 5th, 1990 in Frankfurt, Germany. Being part of a military family he moved around to plenty to places like Zaire, Singapore, and Bangkok before settling down Annapolis, Maryland. This constant movement would later inform his musical style, giving the rapper an international flavor and focus on hard hitting lyrics. Azizi’s lyrical flow is a product of listening to rappers Eminem and the Pharcyde.
Moving to Los Angeles in 2010, Azizi ran into producer Flying Lotus in an apartment complex gym and gave him his Millz produced mixtape Phuck Deluxe. The duo then met for lunch and Flying Lotus had Azizi perform with him for a few shows until he was picked up by Flying Lotus’s label Brainfeeder.
In 2013 Azizi released his first mixtape on the label entitled Ghost in the Shell. He then went on to release an EP called Backward Books in 2014, and his first LP, PreHISTORIC Till Death in 2015 and an addition EP called Grim Meets Evil in the same year. His second LP, A New Life, was released a year later.
