Bat for Lashes, born Natasha Khan on October 25th, 1979 in London, England is a British singer, songwriter and musician that found her love from performing by attending her father’s and uncle’s squash matches and falling in love with the energy that the crowd brought to those events. Her musical influences include Steve Reich and Susan Hiller.
In 2006 Natasha released her debut single “The Wizard” through the label Drowned in Sound. She released her debut album, Fur and Gold, through the label Echo in the same year. The album peaked at number 48 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold in 2007. The Guardian gave the album a five star review and was nominated for a 2007 Mercury Prize. In 2008 Natasha opened up for Radiohead for several shows. In 2009 Bat for Lashes released her second album called Two Suns. The album debuted at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold in the same year. The single “Daniel” peaked at number 36 on the UK Singles Chart and won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song.
In 2012 Natasha released her third album, The Haunted Man, to a number 6 debut on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified silver in the same year. In 2015 Natasha teamed up with producer Dan Carey for an album called Sexwitch.
