Becky Sauerbrunn or Rebecca Elizabeth Sauerbrunn is a professional soccer player born on June 6, 1985 in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a two-time Olympian (2012, 2016) and Olympic gold medalist, as well as FIFA Women's World Cup champion.
She is a football veteran and has played for FC Kansas City, Utah Royals FC and from 2020 for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League. Before playing professional soccer, she played for the University of Virginia Cavaliers.
Since 2021, Sauerbrunn has been the captain of the United States women's national soccer team under head coach Vlatko Andonovski. Her fellow teammates from Portland Thorns FC such as goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, defender Crystal Dunn and midfielder Lindsey Horan play for the US women's national soccer team as well. She first appeared for the US national team in 2008 during a match against Canada. She has over 200 appearances in the national jersey and won NWSL Defender of the Year four times.
