Ben “Funky” Askren Bio
Ben Askren or Ben "Funky" Askren is an American wrestler and professional mixed martial artist, born on July 18, 1984 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is a former Bellator champion, and ONE champion and has competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His “funky" wrestling style got him in the United States Olympic team in 2007 and he even represented the States at the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, where he lost to Ivan Fundora. After the Olympics, he began to pursue a career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He made his UFC debut against Robbie Lawler on March 2, 2019. Ben fought veteran on October 26, 2019 and won the Fight of the Night award. On November 18, 2019 he announced that he would retire. In his career, he won two Dan Hodge Trophies and was ranked third-most in NCAA Division I history. On April 17, 2021, Ben boxed against American YouTuber, Jake Paul.
