Ben Stokes Bio

Benjamin Andrew Stokes is an English international cricketer and vice-captain of the England cricket team, born on June 4, 1991, in Christchurch, New Zealand. As a 12-year-old he came to North West England after his father Ged, became head coach at Workington Rugby League Club. His passion for rugby and cricket helped him settle into the Cumbrian way of life. Stokes, as part of the Cockermouth Cricket Club, landed the North Lancashire and Cumbria Cricket League in 2006.

In 2009, Stokes made his List A debut vs. Surrey, taking the marquee wicket of Mark Ramprakash. His rapid progress put him onto the international stage and in 2009 he played his first Under-19 Test. After that, he was making his ODI debut alongside future England stars Jos Buttler and Joe Root. In 2010 he made his First-Class debut in a pre-season match in Abu Dhabi. His career continued to rise until 2014 when he hurt his wrist, but in 2015 he continued improving his career. Along with Peter Parfitt, he holds the record for the most Test tons by England left-handers from 6 to 11 position. In 2020, he was named ICC’s Cricketer of the Year.
