Billy Connolly was born on November 24, 1942 in Anderston, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Billy Connolly is best known for being a Scottish comedian and an icon of British culture for over 50 years. At a young age, Billy was interested in folk music and became an accomplished banjo player. He was in the band called Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty. Billy would tell jokes between songs and eventually the jokes were more popular and he became a comedian full-time and received several awards. He became a popular star on the 1971 show Parkinson where he holds a record for the most guest appearances. He is well known for his messy long hair and goatee.
Billy was voted to be the greatest stand-up comic in 2007 and 2010 on the 100 Greatest Stand-Ups show. As an actor Billy appeared in several films such as Brave (2012), Quartet (2012), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), and Wild Oats (2016). Billy has had roles on TV shows such as 3rd Rock From the Sun, Columbo, Prince Charming and House. He also has his own show on TV called Billy Connolly & Me: A Celebration and Billy Connolly: Portrait of a Lifetime (2017). Billy Connolly received knighthood from Prince William right before his 75th birthday in 2017.
