Billy F Gibbons is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor born in Houston, Texas on December 16, 1949. He is best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the American rock band ZZ Top. Gibbons has been around music his whole life with his parents being musicians. He received his first guitar at 13 years old and was influenced by the guitarist Jimmy Reed. At 18 years old he started the band Moving Sidewalks. They released their first and only studio album in 1968 titled Flash and became well known after opening for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. In 1969 Gibbons formed the band ZZ Top and recruited Dusty Hill on bass guitar and vocals and Frank “Rube” Beard on drums. They released their debut studio album in 1971 titled ZZ Top’s First Album. The band has released 15 studio albums, 4 live albums, 7 compilation albums, and 44 singles. They have sold over 25 million albums in the United States. In 2015 Gibbons released his debut solo album titled Perfectamundo and followed it up in 2018 with the album The Big Bad Blues. He has also dabbled in acting, appearing in seven episodes of the television series Bones. He has voiced characters on the shows Metalocalypse and King of the Hill.
