Born William Wendell Gilman III, Billy Gilman is an American singer who held the prestigious record of being the youngest artist to rank on the Billboard country charts. He was born on May 24, 1988, in Westerly, Rhode Island, United States and started singing at the age of 11. After getting discovered by Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel while performing at one of the county fairs, young Gilman scored his first deal with Epic and released his debut album ‘One Voice’ in 2000 which went on to become gold certified. Its title song ranked among Top 20 on country charts. His follow-up album ‘Dare To Dream’ released in 2001 also ranked number six on the country charts. Gilman released three more albums before taking a hiatus in 2000s. He made an impressive comeback as a contestant on ‘The Voice’ garnering national attention and finished as a runner-up. He has also appeared in the short documentary ‘Our Country’ in 2003.
