Black Coffee Bio
Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumlo, better known by his moniker DJ Black Coffee or simply Black Coffee, is a South African based producer, recording artist, and DJ best known for his hit remixes. He fell in love with the music industry early on in life, and majored in jazz music studies at Techniken Natal in Berea.
Coffee’s first big break came when his song “Happiness” was featured on the DJ’s At Work Album. He then went on to release two Vinyl EP’s with London-based Kronologik Label. He has since released several albums, and is currently signed with Soulistic Music Label.
In 2005, Black Coffee received the Best Dance Album Award at the South Africa Music Awards. He also won two awards at 2014’s Ibiza DJ Awards – one for Best Breakthrough Album, and one for Best Dance Nation (on behalf of South Africa). 2015, however, would prove to be the most groundbreaking year for DJ Black Coffee, when his newest solo album, Pieces of Me, launched on Itunes in the number one spot.
