Black Violin is an American musical hip hop duo known for its blending of stringed orchestral instruments and modern genres. The group consists of Kevin Sylvester (Kev Marcus) and Wilner Baptiste (Wil B) who met in high school and have been performing as a duo ever since. Since they officially became active as a musical act in 2004, they have performed with Alicia Keys, Mike Shinoda, Alessia Cara, 2 Chainz, and Lil Wayne. Kevin and Wilner play the violin and viola respectively. In 2005, they won the TV broadcasted talent show Showtime at the Apollo, and for their work on the album Take The Stairs, they received a Grammy Awards nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2020. The duo created the Black Violin Foundation that makes music programs accessible to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity.
