Bombino, also known as Goumar Almoctar, is a Nigerien Touareg-influenced blues-rock musician born in Tidene, Niger. After moving with his family to Agadez, Niger, in 2006 he gained notoriety by touring California with fellow Nigerien traditional group Tidawt. In this time he joined Charlie Watts and Keith Richards for a cover song of The Rolling Stones’ “Hey Negrita”. Bombino was featured in a 2009 Nigerien music compilation by Hisham Mayet, and shortly afterwards, he received help from filmmaker Ron Wyman to release his 2011 full-length debut “Agadez”. Bombino's sophomore effort, “Nomad”, went out in 2013 and consisted of a session with The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. A third album titled “Azel” came out in 2016 and featured production by David Longstreth.
