Musician, DJ, and producer Bonobo, who was born Simon Green in Brighton, East Sussex, England, on March 30, 1976, was thrust into the spotlight in 1999 with the release of “Terrapin”, a track of his that was featured on a compilation album put out by the Tru Thoughts label. The next year, Bonobo released his debut album under that same label, entitled Animal Magic. Bonobo made the album and produced it completely by himself, and all of the instruments that are featured on the tracks are played by him.
After signing with the Ninja Tune label in 2001, he released Dial ‘M’ For Monkey in 2003, Days to Come in 2006, Black Sands in 2010, and The North Borders in 2013. The North Borders managed to chart higher than any of the other albums, peaking at #29 on the UK charts. All of his albums have been praised by listeners new and old, due to the fact that Bonobo is able to incorporate genres such as electronica, acid jazz, and trip hop. Though his albums are self-instrumented, Bonobo is known to have a full band accompany him when he performs live.
