Burton Cummings Bio
Burton Cummings is a Canadian singer, musician and songwriter born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on December 31, 1947. He is known for being the lead singer and keyboardist for the Canadian rock band The Guess Who from 1965 to 1975. While with the band he wrote or co-wrote a number of their hit songs, including “Star Baby”, “Laughing”, “Hand Me Down World”, “No Time” and others. They released 11 albums together with all of them charting on the Billboard 200 chart. In 1975 he left the band to be a solo artist and released his debut solo album in 1976 self-titled Burton Cummings. He has since released the albums My Own Way to Rock, Dream of a Child, Woman Love, The Best of Burton Cummings, Sweet Sweet, Heart, Plus Signs, The Burton Cummings Collection, Up Close and Alone, Above the Ground, and Massey Hall. In 1977 he won a Juno Award for Best Male Vocalist. In 1982 he made his debut in acting in the Canadian film Melanie. Several of his songs were included on the soundtrack of the movie. Cummings was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2016 and in 2018 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award for his songwriting from SOCAN.
