CAKE Bio

CAKE is an American alternative rock band formed in around 1991-1992 in Sacramento, California. The band consists of lead vocalist John McCrea, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Daniel McCallum, trumpeter Vince DiFiore and drummer Todd Roper. Cake was formed by John McCrea and released their first debut single, ‘Rock n Roll Lifestyle’ followed by their self-released and self-distributed album, ‘Motorcade of Generosity’. This garnered the attention of record label Capricorn who released their album nation-wide. Cake’s second album, ‘Fashion Nugget’ was released in 1996 producing their breakout hit, ‘The Distance’. Fashion Nugget’ sold over a million copies nationally and landed on the Top 40 charts. In 1998, CAKE released a follow-up album called ‘Prolonging the Magic’ which became certified platinum. Although they saw success with Capricorn, the group signed with Columbia in 2001 and released their fourth album, ‘Comfort Eagle’ with their lead single, ‘Short Skirt/Long Jacket’ which received some airplay on the alternative radio and on MTV airplay. CAKE later released an album titled ‘Pressure Chief’ in 2004 and took a long haitus before they released their most recent body of work, ‘Showroom of Compassion’ in 2011.
