Capital Cities Bio
Composed of Los Angeles songwriters Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, Capital Cities is an indie-electronica duo that was formulated in 2008 when they met on Craigslist. Together, they collaborated to craft commercial jingles, yet moved on from that endeavor in favor of releasing an EP in 2011, which was simply titled Capital Cities EP. Arguably their most popular song off of the EP was “Safe and Sound”, which includes a harmonious blend of melody and an upbeat feel that became a favorite. Their fame, however, really took off in Peru, when they heard that a radio station in that country had been playing their song. From there, they began touring in South America, where they had established a fan base.
Shortly after, the song “Safe and Sound” went to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually going multi-Platinum in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, among other countries. They recently released their debut album A Tidal Wave of Mystery in June 2013. It was recently announced that the duo will be touring with Katy Perry during her 4-month North American “Prismatic World Tour”.
