Carey Mulligan is an English theatre and movie actress. She was born Carey Hannah Mulligan on the 28th of May, 1985, in London, England. Her interest in acting started at a young age and she made her acting debut on stage at the Royal Court Theatre. In 2005, she made her movie debut in the romantic drama “Pride and Prejudice” based on Jane Austen’s novel and starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Some television roles followed, including an episode in “Doctor Who” and “Bleak House”. In 2007 she performed in the movie “My Boy Jack” starring Daniel Radcliffe. She got her breakthrough in 2009, when she landed the lead role of the independent movie “An Education”, which received very positive reviews. Mulligan was nominated for several awards for that role, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. She also won a BAFTA Rising Star Award. The next year, she joined the cast of “Never Let Me Go” and her performance earned her a British Independent Award. She has starred in several box office movies such as “The Great Gatsby” opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, and “Inside Llewyn Davis” directed by the Coen brothers.
