Carlos Alberto Valderrama Palacio, widely known as Carlos Valderrama, is a revered Colombian retired professional soccer player celebrated for his exceptional skills as an attacking midfielder. He was born in Santa Marta, Colombia, on September 2, 1961.
Valderrama honed his talent during his formative years with Liceo Celedón and Unión Magdalena. His professional journey began in 1980 when he joined the senior Unión Magdalena team. Over the course of his illustrious career, Valderrama graced the fields of top soccer leagues in Europe and South America, showcasing his prowess with notable clubs such as Millonarios, Deportivo Cali, Montpellier, Real Valladolid, Independiente Medellín, Atlético Junior, Tampa Bay Mutiny, and Colorado Rapids. From 1985 to 1998, he donned the Colombian national team jersey 111 times, netting 11 goals.
