James Caron Butler (Also known by his nickname Tuff Juice) is an American former NBA star, basketball coach, and producer who was born on March 13th, 1980 in Racine, Wisconsin, United States. He was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. Caron played college football with the University of Connecticut’s Huskies men’s basketball team before he got drafted in 2002. He was drafted into the Miami Heat which played from 2002 to 2004.
Caron played for 14 years in the NBA. Throughout his career, he played for Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Sacramento Kings. Caron became an NBA champion in 2011 with Dallas Mavericks and he was also in two NBA All-Star games. He later returned to the NBA in 2020 serving as assistant coach of the Miami Heat. He released his autobiography Tuff Juice: My Journey from the Streets to the NBA in 2015.
As a producer, Caron is known for The Green Dream, Four Square Miles to Glory, and Team Restart (2020).
