Casting Crowns Bio

Casting Crowns is a contemporary Christian rock band that was formed in 1999 by lead vocalist, pastor Mark Hall. The band started in Daytona Beach, Florida as a student worship band. The lineup for the band began to form with violinist Melodee Devevo and guitarist Hector Cervantes and Juan Devevo. After the band was formed, Casting Crowns relocated to Georgia in 2001. Upon their move, they casted Chris Huffman as their bassist, Andy Williams as their drummer and Mehan Garett as their keyboardist. Casting Crowns released two albums, one of which was hard by Mark Miller who was the lead singer for country band Sawyer Brown. Miller was a fan of their pop/rock sound and Hall’s vocals and lyrics that he signed them to his Beach Street Records. The band went on to release a self titled album, ‘Casting Crowns’ in 2003 and eventually went platinum, becoming very popular in the Christian market landing at number 2 on the CCM. Casting Crowns went on to release a five song ‘Live from Atlanta’ album in 2004 and ‘Lifesong’ in 2005. ‘Lifesong’ became their most successful album and made it to the top ten in the Christian and secular market. Their popularity led them to their release in 2007, ‘The Altar and the Door’ which charted at number two on the Billboard album charts. The band released a single titled ‘East To West’ which spent 16 weeks on the Christian chart. Casting Crowns remained famous in the Christian community and recorded several more albums; ‘Peace on Earth’ in 2008, ‘Whole World Hears’ in 2009, ‘Come to the Well’ in 2011, ‘The Acoustic Sessions’ in 2013 and ‘Thrive’ in 2015, ‘The Very Next Thing’ in 2016, ‘It’s Finally Christmas’ in 2017 and ‘Only Jesus’ in 2018. Their hit from their first album, ‘Who Am I’ has garnered 46 million hits on Spotify.
