Cate Blanchett Bio

Cate Blanchett is an Australian theatre and movie actress. She was born Catherine Elise Blanchett on the 14th of May, 1969, in Ivanhoe, Victoria, Australia. She studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in New Wales. She began her career on stage and in 1998 she landed her first lead role in the movie “Elizabeth” as Elizabeth I. She won a BAFTA Award for her performance in that movie and a nomination at the Academy Award. In 2004, she starred in another critically acclaimed box office as Katharine Hepburn in the biopic “The Aviator” alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She has worked with recognized directors like Woody Allen, in the drama “Blue Jasmine”, for which she won an Academy Award as Best Actress. Among her most commercially successful movies, there is “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Hobbit”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. In 2015, she starred in the title role in “Carol” alongside Rooney Mara. She has won many awards during her career and in 2001, she received the Centenary Medal of Australia, and in 2017 she was named Companion of the Order of Australia.
