Caterine Ibargüen is a retired athlete born on 12th February 1984 in Apartadó, Antioquia, Colombia. She is widely recognized for competing in long, high, and triple jumps. She started out as a volleyball player, and when her coach noticed her skills, she suggested she tries Medellin. She began her training with Coach Jorge Luis Alfaro in 1996 at the Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex.
In 2005, she recorded a personal best of 1.93 meters in the high jump. She also took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. From 2014 to 2019, she held the record for the triple jump in South America. In September 2011, she won bronze at the IAAF World Championship in Daegu. She also won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics held in London after jumping 14.80 m on her last attempt. She retired in August 2021.
