Cecile McLorin Salvant is a jazz vocalist born on 28th August 1989 in Miami, Florida, United States. She is widely recognized for being the first person to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Her passion for music started at a pretty young age, but her transition to jazz began in 2007. She draws inspiration from Sarah Vaughan and vocalists like Betty Carter, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday.
She released her debut album in 2010, titled “Cecile McLorin Salvant”. Her prize win for the jazz singing competition she won in 2020 included a recording deal with the Mack Avenues Records. She released her second and third albums through the label. Her second album, titled “WomanChild”, was released in 2013 and was nominated for a Grammy Award the following year. Her second album, “For One to Love”, was released in September 2015.
