Chad VanGaalen is a Canadian musician and artist, born in 1977 in Calgary, Alberta. This multi-instrumentalist debuted in the 2000s with three of his albums nominated for Canada's Polaris Prize. He released the album Infiniheart in 2004 under the Canadian independent label Flemish Eye and got compared to The Flaming Lips and Neil Young. A year later, the indie label Sub Pop re-released the album with a bonus six-song EP. In 2009, he released the album Snow Blindness is Crystal Antz under the alias Black Mold. He continued releasing Shrink Dust in 2014, Light Information in 2017, and his seventh album World's Most Stressed Out Gardener, in 2021. As a solo producer, he produced the first two albums of Women.
Chad is also a visual artist and has designed the artwork of his albums. He has also designed album covers for Shout Out Out Out Out's Not Saying/Just Saying, as well as animated music videos for J Mascis, Guster, and Holy Fuck.
