Charles Dance Bio

Charles Dance is an English theatre, television and movie actor, screenwriter, as well as a film director. He was born on the 10th of October, 1946, in Redditch, Worcestershire, U.K. He started his career on stage, performing for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1970s. His first break in television was on the series “The Jewel in the Crown”, in 1984, where he portrayed Guy Perron, alongside Geraldine James. He starred in several British television dramas like “Edward the Seventh”, “Murder Rooms”, and “Randall and Hopkirk”. In 2004, he wrote and directed “Ladies in Lavender” starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. In 2011, Dance landed a role on the major success series “Game of Thrones”, as Tywin Lannister. He returned to theatre in the 2000s and in 2007, he received high praise for his performance as C.S. Lewis in “Shadowlands” directed by William Nicholson. In 2014, he portrayed Alastair Denniston in “The Imitation Game” opposite Benedict Cumberbatch. In the same year, he acted as Emperor Emhyr var Emreis on “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”.
