Chase Cameron Utley is a former professional baseball player born on December 17, 1978, in Pasadena, California. Utley began his amateur career playing for his high school team at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He was initially drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1997 but turned it down to attend the University of California, Los Angeles. At the university, he played for their baseball team, the UCLA Bruins, where he first played as a second baseman. Utley was drafted in the 2000 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He made his first major league debut in 2003 and continued to play with the Phillies until 2015. During his time with the Phillies, he helped the team win the 2008 World Series, was chosen to be part of 6 All-Star Games, and received 4 Silver Slugger Awards as a second baseman. In 2015, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he played until the 2018 season. In 2019, Utley announced his retirement from baseball.
