Chatham County Line is a bluegrass music group formed in 1999 and based in North Carolina. The group was founded by Dave Wilson, Greg Readling, John Teer, and Chandler Holt. The four met while Wilson was still part of the band Stillhouse when he met Readling. The two were interested in creating a different sound from what Stillhouse was making at the time. They met Stillhouse fans and musicians Teer and Holt, and the four began occasionally playing as Chatham County Line. After the dissolution of Stillhouse, the four men continued playing at gigs and opening for artists like Merritt. In 2003, they were spotted by producer Chris Stamey, which led to the creation of their first album that same year. The group became more popular in Europe, especially in Norway, after they were recruited by the popular Norwegian singer Jonas Fjeld to back him on his tour. They would subsequently record several albums with Fjeld which reached the top of the Norwegian charts. In 2019, Holt decided to leave the group. With the absence of a banjo player, Chatham County Line began exploring a new sound, adding a rotating cadre of drummers to their roster.
