Chelsea Manning Bio
American activist and whistleblower, Chelsea Manning was born as Bradley Edward Manning on 17th December 1987 in Oklahoma. A U.S Army Intelligence Analyst, she became globally known for providing WikiLeaks with several classified documents, making it the biggest unauthorized state secrets release in American history. She was found guilty of several offenses after trial and was given a 35 year long sentence. Manning claimed that the documents were released to expose the abuse of human rights by the US Army. During her trial, she was also banned from providing any evidence that her actions were in public interest. The trial became a sensation when she also requested to be identified as a woman during that time. Many believed that she was overcharged as she was found guilty of violating the Espionage Act. This, many believe, were wider ideological charges than simply punishing her for leaking confidential documents. The trail divided the viewers into those who considered her a heroic whistleblower and others who believed that she was a traitor.
