American rapper Chika, born as Jane Chika Oranika on March 9th 1997 was accepted to the Berklee College of Music, but couldn’t attend due to tuition. The talented rapper gained attention following an Instagram post, posted after the 2016 presidential election, where she covered herself in pale foundation, saying “African-American? Never felt that, never heard of that, never tasted that, never smelled that.” She created the #EgoChallenge, and a Pride-themed remix of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You.
Chika went viral after a freestyle address at Kanye West, catching the attention of Jada Pinkett Smith, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Erykah Badu. Chika featured on the track Coulda Told Me by Rachel Crow, and performed her songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Signing with Warner Records, she released High Rises, and Can’t Explain It featuring Charlie Wilson. Chika featured on JoJo’s Sabotage, reaching #18 on the Billboard R&B digital song chart. Chika released her EP, Industry Games, featured on XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class, and performed her song Crown on the Graduate Together special. She released the single, My Power, which is featured in the Netflix film Project Power.
