Chloé Zhao Bio

Chloé Zhao is a filmmaker born on 31st March 1982 in Beijing, China. She is known for her work in American independent movies. Western pop culture had a significant influence on her childhood. While Chinese cultural values do not allow this, her determination to achieve played a crucial role in making her an aspiring filmmaker. She began her film-making career with short films.

She released her first short film, "Daughters," in 2010, which won many awards. Her directorial debut came in 2015 with the film "Songs My Brothers Taught Me," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Marvel Studios appointed her in 2018 to direct Eternals (2020). She captured the audience's imagination with Nomadland in 2020, which clinched the Golden Globe in the Best Director category. She also won the Golden Lion for the same film in 2020, but due to COVID19 restrictions, she couldn't receive it in person.
