Ernest Evans, known professionally as Chubby Checker, is a highly accomplished American singer, songwriter, and dancer known for his contributions to rock & roll and rhythm & blues music. He was born in Spring Gully, South Carolina, United States, on October 3, 1941.
Chubby moved to Philadelphia in his youth and started his career as a performer in various nightclubs and venues in the area. It was there that he was discovered by Dick Clark, who helped him secure a recording contract in 1959. Chubby quickly rose to fame in the early 1960s with his hit single The Twist, which popularized a dance style of the same name. The song went on to become a cultural phenomenon and has since been named the biggest chart hit of all time by Billboard magazine in 2008. He followed up this success with other chart-topping hits such as Let's Twist Again, Dancin' Party, and many others.
Throughout his career, Chubby Checker has released numerous albums, with Twist with Chubby Checker being one of his most notable works. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to music, including winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock & Roll Recording.
