Colin Thackery Bio

Colin Thackery is a British singer, born on March 9, 1930, in England. In 2019, at the age of 89, he became the oldest winner ever of the competition series Britain’s Got Talent. He was also given the chance to sing for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Performance.

Colin is an army veteran, earning medals for serving in Malaya and the Korean War. Before enlisting in the Army at the age of 15, he joined his local church choir. While he was traveling, he performed and sang for the troops. After losing his wife in 2016, he joined the Chelsea Pensioners, a retirement home for British Army veterans, where he was persuaded to audition for Britain’s Got Talent. He impressed the judges, dressed in the iconic Pensioners Scarlet uniform, performing Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings. In the semifinals he performed We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn, accompanied by his fellow Pensioners. He won the show with Sarah Brightman’s Love Changes Everything. He signed a deal with Simon Cowell’s company Simco, and later released his debut album titled Love Changes Everything.
