Conor Oberst Bio

Conor Mullen Oberst is an American musician who is known for his indie rock and alternative country sound. Originally from Nebraska, Oberst began his music career when he formed rock band Commander Venus in 1994. He then went on to be a part of a few local bands such as The Magentas and Park Ave. in 1996. Eventually, in 1995, Oberst founded the band Bright Eyes, becoming his most notable venture who gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Along with Bright Eyes, Oberst played with band Desaparecidos and released several projects with them such as ‘Lifted or the Story Is In the Soil’. In 2008, Oberst began to perform solo with a band of musicians called the Mystic Valley Band releasing his self-titled album, ‘Conor Oberst’ followed by his EP, ‘Gentleman’s Pact’ and his second album, ‘Outer South’ in 2009. In 2009, Conor joined the band Monsters of Folk as both a vocalist and guitarist and released their first album in the same year. Still wanting to pursue a solo career, Oberst released another solo record, ‘Upside Down Mountain’ in 2014 followed by his 2016 album, ‘Ruminations’. His most recent work is a follow up to his 2016 album titled ‘Saluations’ which was released in 2017. While still pursuing his own personal sound, Oberst recently formed a duo called Better Oblivion Community Center in 2019 with musician Phoebe Bridges and released their first self-titled studio album in the same year. As of January 2020, Conor Oberst’s Bright Eyes released a teaser that they will be returning with new music this year.
