Christine Justino, better known as Cristiane Cyborg, is a Brazilian professional MMA fighter, born on July 9, 1985, in Curitiba, Brazil. She is also a former Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion. She was married to MMA fighter Evangelista Santos. She rose to fame when she won the Strikeforce title in 2009, defeating Gina Carano via TKO.
Cyborg was a national team handball player before pursuing a career in MMA. After a handball championship game, she was approached by Rudimar Fedrigo, founder and head coach of Chute Boxe Academy. In 2009, and 2010, she was named Female Featherweight of the Year at the MMA Awards. She has been compared to Wanderlei Silva in her approach to fighting. Cyborg has fought Eric Paes, submitting her by knee-bar early in round one. At Storm Samurai, she won against Vanessa Porto. She has appeared on TV in Fight Valley, Edge of Desire, UFC 25 Years in Short, Countdown to UFC, and UFC Embedded: Vlog Series. Cyborg is the only MMA fighter in history, female or male, to become a Grand Slam Champion. She is also regarded as one of the greatest female mixed martial artists of all time.
