Crowded House is an indie pop rock band with a career spanning four decades. It’s current line-up is Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mark Hart, and Matt Sherrod, each sharing duties on vocals, guitar, keyboard, and percussion. Finn and Seymour were two of the original founders, assembling the band from various talent in other bands including The Cheks, Deckchairs Overboard, Split Enz, and Hunters & Collectors, all local staples of the Australian music scene. They signed with Capitol Records in 1985, which was quick to jump at the chance to sign what amounted to a supergroup.
Literally every studio album Crowded House has produced has been certified multi-platinum. Singles they have produced throughout the 1980s and 1990s have charted worldwide, including “Don’t Dream It’s Over” (1986), “Better Be Home Soon” (1988), “Weather with You” (1992) to name some of their better-known tunes. Crowded House has won twelve ARIA Music Awards, eight APRA Awards, three New Zealand Music Awards, and too many more to list here. The band took a lengthly hiatus from 1997 until 2007, and another from 2011 until 2017, but are in business to the present day.
