Crowder, born David Wallace Crowder in Texarkana, TX, is an American folktronica musician. Formerly of the David Crowder Band, Crowder has been recording and performing solo on sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records since 2012. His solo debut album, Neon Steeple, which hit number 1 on the US Christian charts and number 9 on the US charts, was released in 2014. The 2013 single “I Am” hit number 3 on the US Christian Songs chart. His final album with the David Crowder Band, 2012’s Give Us Rest, debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Crowder cites his parents’ favorite artists, including Elvis, Willie Nelson, and Olivia Newton John, as major inspirations in his career. After Crowder’s debut performance at the Grand Ol Opry in 2014, Ricky Skaggs said that Crowder is an “international harvester” whose music can free people from “addictions, drugs and alcohol, and most importantly, religion, things that bind us and hold us down and make us think that we have to do it a certain way.”
