Crystal Gayle Bio

Brenda Gail Webb (popularly known as Crystal Gayle) is an American singer and songwriter who was born on January 9th, 1951 in Paintsville, Kentucky, United States. Gayle began her debut in 1970 with the single I've Cried (The Blues Right Out of My Eyes) and it hit the country Top 40. She followed up her sizable success with several appearances on Jim Ed Brown's The Country Place TV show. In 1974 she dropped Crystal Gayle and the next year her hit track Wrong Road Again became her first Top Ten country hit. Two years later, I’ll Get Over You appeared. Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue hit #1 on the country charts in 1977 climbing to #2 on the pop side. The track won Gayle a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal, while her next album We Must Believe in Magic became the first female country artist to go platinum. Gayle’s other country hits include You Never Miss a Real Good Thing ('Til He Says Goodbye) (1977), Ready for the Times to Get Better (1978), Talking in Your Sleep (1978 also a pop Top 20 hit), and Why Have You Left the One You Left Me For (1979) not minding the rest. She recorded two gospel albums during the '90s, Someday and He Is Beautiful, and in 1999 completed a tribute project, Crystal Gayle Sings the Heart & Soul of Hoagy Carmichael.
