James Poutney (popularly known by his stage name Culture Shock) is a British DJ and record producer who was born and raised in the UK. James fell in love with drum-n-bass while listening to a pirate radio in London when he was a kid.
James' first output, the EP Vega (Moving Shadow) appeared in 2004. Three years later he released The Third Stage, his second EP. He formed the habit of releasing one big release a year, often just a single. In his off years, he released two tracks Move Higher in 2009 and You Make It Better in 2013. City Lights appeared in 2015 featuring singer Bryn Christopher on Vocals. City Lights was a hit, and riding on the success, he released his third EP Transit in later 2015.
His discography includes the hit singles Renaissance(Edit), Love to Give with Billy Lockett and Dimension, Panic Room – Culture Shock Remix, Bunker, and the studio projects Sequence and Transit. He has appeared on multiple drum & bass compilations, on Andy C’s album Nightlife, on Dimension’s album Organ, and Loadstar’s compilation album RAMlife Loadstar.
