Derrick Jones (popularly known by his professional moniker D-Nice) is an American DJ, rapper, and producer who was born on June 19 1970 in New York City, New York. He was only 15 when he met DJ Scott La Rock and joined Boogie Down Productions as the youngest member. That was where he began his career.
Derrick’s stature grew significantly when he and KRS-One produced the Stop the Violence Movement's Self-Destruction. The track featured an all-star cast of New York MCs and peaked at number 30 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart in 1989. He later signed a solo deal with the label Jive, and also helped Kid Rock land a contract of his own.
Derrick’s 1990 hit debut classic Call Me D-Nice is unforgettable. He was barely 21 at the time and produced and co-produced all the tracks which later peaked at number 19 on the Black Singles chart in August. To tha Rescue followed 1991. He performed in President Obama’s 2012 inaugural ball. In 2021 he issued a pair of singles No Plans for Love featuring Ne-Yo and Rather Be featuring Kiana Lede.
