Dame Edna Everage is the stage persona and alter-ego of Australian actor John Barry Humphries. He was born in Kew, Melbourne, Australia, on February 17, 1934. He created the character John Barry Humphries, also known as Mrs. Norma Everage, in 1955 when he was part of a touring group that stemmed from the Union Theatre Repertory Company. He reprised the role for the rest of his acting career in live shows, TV shows, and films. Besides his numerous appearances in live comedy skits, Barry appeared in the TV series Ally McBeal, QI, Jack Irish, the films Spice World, Immortal Beloved, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, and Nicholas Nickleby. For his portrayal of the character in One More Audience with Dame Edna Everage, The Dame Edna Experience, and An Audience with Dame Edna Everage. Dame Edna Everage, Barry has received three BAFTA Awards for Best Light Entertainment Performance.
