Singer-songwriter Dami Im was born on October 17, 1988 in South Korea. She began playing the piano at the age of five and also taught herself to sing by copying her favorite artists. Her family immigrated to Australia when she was nine and two years later she began studying at the Young Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University, the same school at which she would eventually earn a Masters of Arts degree in contemporary voice. In 2010, to raise money for her church, she released an album titled Dream. In 2011, she released a Christmas EP titled Snow & Carol and the following year she released her second EP titled Intimacy. During this time, Im also worked as a music and piano teacher.
Dami Im’s breakthrough came when she competed on the fifth season of The X Factor Australia in 2013. Although she was initially eliminated during “boot camp”, she was called back after another contestant decided he could not commit to the competition. During her time on the show, she performed songs by Beyonce, Prince, Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson, among others. On October 28, 2013, it was announced she had won the competition. Im released the winner’s single, “Alive”, and also received a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. Her self-titled debut album was released on November 23, 2013 and featured studio recordings of songs she performed on The X Factor. Im also took part in The X Factor Live Tour along with Third Degree, Taylor Henderson, Jiordan Tolli ,and Jai Waetford. In March of 2014, she released her next single, an acoustic version of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”
Dami Im released her third album, Heart Beats, on October 17, 2014. The album features the singles “Super Love” and “Gladiator.” In December of 2014, Im will tour as the supporting act for the Australian leg of John Legend’s All of Me Tour
