Damien Escobar Bio

Damien Escobar is an American violinist born in New York City, New York on June 13, 1988. He is best known for his role in the music group Nuttin’ But Stringz. Escobar started playing the violin at the age of 8 and by 10 he was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music and also studied at Bloomingdale School of Music. Growing up Damien and his brother Tourie would work as street musicians playing at Grand Central Station and in New York City Subways. In 2003 they formed the duo Nuttin’ But Stringz and in 2005 won a talent competition at the Apollo Theater. In 2006 they landed a role in the film Step Up and released their debut album titled Struggle from the Subway to the Charts. The duo competed in the third season on America’s Got Talent in 2008 and came in third in the competition. In 2009 they played at the First Inauguration of the President Barack Obama and won two Emmy Awards. In 2012 the duo decided to disband and Damien decided to pursue a solo career. He went on tour in 2013 on the I Am Me tour and in 2014 released his debut solo album titled Sensual Memories. That same year he released an autobiographical children’s book titled The Sound of Strings.
