Singer/songwriter and musician Damon Albarn was born in Whitechapel, London, on March 23, 1968. Albarn showed an interest in music when he was very young, having learned how to play the violin, piano, and guitar. While in college, he and a few classmates formed the group Seymour in 1988, but the name was change to Blur by their label, Food Records. in 1990, Blur’s first single “She’s So High” was released, charting at #48 on the UK Singles chart. This preceded the release of their debut album Leisure in 1991, which they followed with the sophomore effort Modern Life is Rubbish. Though the band was losing steam in the United States, they were gaining momentum in their home of England, later releasing the albums Parklife in 1994 and The Great Escape in 1995.
Having released a variety of singles and albums by the new millennium – notably with the virtual band Gorillaz that he formed with Jamie Hewlett- Damon Albarn decided to pursue a solo career and released his EP entitled Democrazy in 2003. A decade later, he began speaking about his debut album, which he promoted extensively through YouTube. Everyday Robots was eventually released in 2014 through Parlophone, Warner Bros.
