Dan Savage is an American author, media pundit, and journalist born in Chicago, Illinois on October 7, 1964. He is best known for writing the internationally syndicated relationship and sex advice column Savage Love. After graduating from college he moved to Seattle, Washington to become an advice columnist for The Stranger. From 1994 to 1997 he hosted a call in show called Savage Love Live on the radio station KCMU and from 1998 to 2000 ran the advice column Dear Dan on abcnews.com. In 2012 he starred on the MTV show, Savage U and became the editorial director of The Stranger. He has also made appearances on Real Time with Bill Maher, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, and Anderson Cooper 360. In 2010 he founded the non-profit It Gets Better Project that encourages adults to submit videos for gay teenagers letting them know that life can get better after bullying. He has also written a number of books, Savage Love: Straight Answers from America’s Most Popular Sex Columnist, The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Get Pregnant, The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and My Family and more. Throughout his career he has won several awards, including the Bonham Centre Award, the 2013 Humanist of the Year Award, the Lambda Literary Award and others.
