Daniel Platzman (born September 28, 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and composer. He is best known as a drummer for the popular pop rock band Imagine Dragons. He performs alongside bassist Ben McKee, guitarist Wayne Sermon, and frontman Dan Reynolds in Imagine Dragons.
Platzman came into the spotlight in 2012 after the release of their debut studio album Night Visions. Prior to that, he graduated from Berklee College of Music with a bachelor's degree in film scoring and performed with the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra as well as the Berklee Rainbow Big Band.
In 2011, Platzman was invited by Wayne Sermon to join Imagine Dragons. In November 2011, the band signed with Interscope Records and began working with producer Alex da Kid. In 2012, their debut album Night Visions brought the band mainstream success after it reached #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also won the Billboard Music Award for Best Rock Album in 2014. In 2015, Imagine Dragons' second album Smoke + Mirrors reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
Owing to his growing popularity, Platzman appeared on the cover of Drum! magazine's March 2015 issue. Two months later, he was profiled again in Drum! He is a recipient of the Vic Firth Award for Outstanding Musicianship and has performed with the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program.
